At the Bushes Gay Hermit looked in trouble, as Archer was already hard at work, but he struggled gamely under punishment, aild with Modwena swerving in the last few strides, Gay Hermit just reached her and made a dead heat. Ravine cut out the work at her best pace, and was followed by Wastdale and Golden Light, with Pearl Diver bringing up the rear just behind her stable companion. They ran thus to the Bushes, where Ravine was spun out, and Melton having immediately afterwards assumed the command, he waited in front for Wastdale until very close, home, when Pearl Diver got into second place, the " crack " winning, hard held, by a length ; a neck dividing second and third. Kinsky, on the inside, cut out the work from Clochette, Merry Duchess, Glimmer, and Forio, these being followed by Barberine, Onesto, Royal Fern, and Dalmeny, with Pizarro and Lucerne in the rear. This order was pretty well maintained to the T.Y.C. winn ng-post, when Merry Duchess deprived Kinsky of the command, and the pair went on from Clochette, Barberine, and Forio to the Bushes, when the French filly, who was in the middle of the course, pulled her way to the head of affairs. The race was over from this point, as Barberine had cleared her opponents in the Abingdon Mile Bottom, and keeping it up to the end, won easily from Clochette by three lengths, four lengths dividing' second' and, third.
